Being a tourist in our own space

This past weekend was really nice. Simple, the way I really enjoy things. I used to love very eventful weekends; I was completely bored with life if I did not go out at least Thursday to Sunday. I would go out with friends to movies, parties, and clubs. And my favorite thing was going to my Salsa lessons on the weekdays and then getting to practice all of it on the weekends. It was so much fun. I really enjoy dancing and I absolutely loved taking lessons. Salsa is a dance I always wanted to learn, and I was fortunate to have some great teachers. In less than two months I was out dancing and showing off my talent and forever learning more and more.

Things have changed quite a bit since J died. I can’t say it was because I used to go out with him, because we never, ever did any of that together. I think maybe in a way, I did all of those things because I KNEW how much that would bother him; but in the process I learned to love all of it. Anyhow, after his accident, I didn’t really feel up to it.

When I met my husband I hardly ever went out, except to an occasional movie. I basically hung out with friends, so I was used to staying home and renting movies, just relaxing. I thank God everyday for that because I have married someone who doesn’t really enjoy going out to bars, he can’t dance and has no experience what so ever when it comes to going out and having fun. Reality is we live in a beautiful island and he has not seen most of the great things Puerto Rico has to offer.

So what I suggested was this…it is what we in Puerto Rico call “turismo interno” which is just being tourists in your own town, country or in our case island. We started out on Saturday by going out to have some drinks and play some pool, which I guess you cant consider a tourist thing, but then on Sunday we went to the zoo, next weekend who knows, but we have a whole list of things that include: The rainforest in Luquillo, The observatory in Arecibo, the Fluorescent Bay in Lajas, the boardwalk in Ponce, once the weather is a little better, the water park in Aguadilla and Ponce, the Indian Park in Utuado and many more interesting and fun things to do. I guess now is the time to go out and have fun, we are just recently married and I know things will not be so easy when and if God sees it fit to bless us with children.

In the mean time I am just going to have fun and enjoy day to day life with R, he makes me laugh and we always have a great time when we go out, even if it is just to the zoo. Hopefully next weekend will be fun, it’s my birthday weekend you know and the big 25 are coming up next Monday.
